Engineering Nature: The Science of Professional Plant Care

How to Use Crystal Grain

Keep your cacti thriving without the risk of root rot. Crystal Grain is a clean medium that provides superior aeration for desert plants. The color-changing grains tell you exactly when to water.

What types of plants can I use Crystal Grain for?

We offer three types of Crystal Grain: one for potted plants (houseplants), one for cacti/succulents, and one for vegetables. Please use the dedicated type of Crystal Grain that is appropriate for the plant you wish to grow.

Are there any usage instructions I should be aware of?

Washing the grains may cause the nutrients to leach out, so please use them as is (without washing).

Can Crystal Grain for Potted Plants be used in pots with slits or drainage holes?

We recommend using a common pot with drainage holes when using Crystal Grain for the first time. Once you understand the watering cycle, you can then use pots without drainage holes, or even use dishes as planters.

Is there a sign to tell me when to water the plant?

Yes, the sign for watering is when the entire surface changes from a gray color to white. Give the plant 50ml to 300ml of water (depending on the pot size), leaving a small amount of the white surface visible after watering.

How do I remove water stains that have overflowed from the saucer?

Since the product does not contain any dye components, the stains can be removed by washing with water. If the stains have entered the fine texture of tile or wood materials, you can remove them by using a brush or scrubber as well.
