Sphagnum moss is useful for a variety of gardening and crafting purposes due to its purer form. This once living moss has been dried after being harvested instead of being collected after dying like peat moss. Sphagnum moss has a neutral pH.

Sphagnum Moss can be used in terrariums to prevent the soil from washing down into the drainage layer, as well as a planting medium for plants with special needs.

Nepenthes and Heliamphora especially benefit from sphagnum, but other carnivorous plants do as well when mixed with other soil ingredients, as a soil topper to prevent drying out, or as a way to keep soil from washing out of the pot in the tray method.

It is light and holds moisture very well. It doesn't become overly soggy though, so it means your plant is less likely to be bothered by root issues.

Sphagnum will give the roots a moist medium to grow in while allowing easy attachment to a piece of wood.

This moss covers the ball of soil used in moss ball creation. Not only does it keep it moist, but also protects the soil from falling apart with the help of string.
